SPOILER ALERT BELOW!!
If you saw the movie but a few things didn’t make any sense, read below.
Before you watch the new Wolverine movie Logan, get caught up on his character’s timeline. It should help you make more sense of things. Logan is full of badass action and gore. So if that’s what you’re looking for, enjoy! If you’re someone like me who would get irritated because a current political agenda was fused into one of your most favorite comic book childhood stories, you’re gonna be left with a bit of a “WHAT THE FUCK!!” feeling halfway through.
“It’s no coincidence that the movie takes place on the southwest border of the United States and Mexico. In some ways we’re trying to transfer the ideas of the mutant persecution to ideas about immigrants in our culture. Working on a movie, you always hope to find ways to latch on to our current culture and predicaments.” – Director James Mangold
My issues with this is that the persecution of mutants in Marvel comics was actually inspired by the Holocaust. You know, the systematic state-sponsored genocide of millions at the hands of the Nazis. Huge difference between that terrible period in history and the United Stated putting a stop to illegals who illegally cross the United States borders. The director of Logan is a complete fucking assclown.
Now for the spoiler:
1.) In the comics Logan doesn’t die the same way he does in the movie. In fact, this may be the 11th new variation of his death. Ok, that being said, of the 10 comic book deaths (various Marvel universes), only one is truly considered to be the one that is accepted as the way he really dies. (hot liquid adamantium poured over his body, turning him into basically an adamantium statue, suffocating him to death.
2.) So how does the entire mutant population die off in only 6 years from Days of Future Past ending in 2023 to Logan in 2029? Legacy 2 Virus!! It was introduced in the 90’s Marvel comics as acting similar to AIDs but it only targets those with the mutant-X gene. Oh and before the damn Legacy 2 virus kills you, you loose control of your mutant powers at random. I’m only speculating that its the Legacy 2 virus because of how the entire mutant population could get wiped out so quickly and because Professor X is overwhelmed by massive guilt throughout the entire move because of something he did in the past. Think about the hotel scene in Logan. The Legacy 2 virus also helps explain why Logan’s healing factor is soo low. This means that as the Legacy 2 virus may have killed off soo many mutants, it didn’t kill them all, yet.
3.) X-23 aka Laura (Laura Kinney) …Her story wasn’t tampered too much by the movie except for leaving out her mom, Sarah Kinney. Sarah Kinney created her in a test tube and impregnated herself. Years later Laura Kinney kills her surrogate mother after her mother frees her from the facility that’s experimenting on her. I’m leaving a lot out but I would have much rather have seen that story unfold as opposed to a nurse in Mexico who’s character was created for obvious reasons.
4.) So, where are these kids going? Well, Canada. but why. I can only speculate, but I’m guessing team Alpha Flight. Basically a Canadian X-Men like team.
